GREAT GULL RECORDS
Great Gull Records is an Independent record label
featuring the work of songwriter Fred Moolten and dedicated to folk music and blues. We
are one of many sites emerging in recent years to offer music to listeners whose tastes
are not appeased by major record labels aiming to sell millions of copies to the teenage,
pre-teen, and young adult market. Rather, our hope is to reach listeners yearning
for music that is melodic as well as rhythmic, and lyrics that are powerful and literate
rather than a litany of cliches. Our songs, like most others, deal with what is
traditionally referred to as "the human condition", but embrace a wider variety
of themes than those found in conventional pop lyrics. About Pricing: We offer CDs at very modest
prices. If you visit a store that sells CDs, you may find the latest hit albums
offered for $15 or more. The store may also have a section offering "Greatest Hits of
1975" or ‘71 or ’65, etc. - each CD for $2.50. We believe that the type of
music we offer will be as valuable to its hearers thirty years from now as it is today
(just as blues and folk music genres endured over most of the last century while other
fashions withered). That’s musical value, however, not market value. Our actual price
is based on more mundane considerations. It competes favorably with other CDs that
fail to match our music in quality. It is also competitive with the many Internet
vendors now selling individual downloads of our songs and those of most other artists for
less than a dollar per song. These downloads are ideal for listeners desiring only
one or a few tracks. For those who would enjoy the entire CD, the downloads are less
desirable because they are sent as mp3 or Windows Media files - compressed formats that
sacrifice sound quality to permit faster downloads. The downloads also lack the
artwork and jewel case of a CD. |
